Success Stories

Our mission is to find happy homes for all of our animals.  Many times the dogs and cats at our shelter have come from terrible abuse situations, so it is essential that we find loving families who are committed to the animal's health and well being.

Below are some of the many successful adoptions that have taken place since the shelter was opened.   We hope that these stories inspire you to consider adopting a new furry family member!

This is Heather and Eric Achuff. We rescued Moose, now named Frank, back in September. When we first brought him home he was a little timid and skittish, but quickly adjusted to his new home here in Pontiac. He is the happiest dog ever and the most lovable. He loves to play with his hard rubber toy and his nyla bone. When we are home with him he loves to sit on the couch with us and hang out. Frank also loves to go on car rides and run around outside. Eric and I are so happy to have found a pet that is as awesome as Frank is. He is a big part of our family and always will be.

Here are a few pictures of Frank.

Thanks.

Hi everyone. My name is Magan and my mom adopted me 2 years ago. You see, she actually came to the LCHS to adopt a dog. Imagine that! So many beautiful cats and she wanted a dog. Luckily she decided to take a look around the cat room. I must have had a GREAT hair day as she decided to take me home.

I could tell my new mom was a little nervous as it had been years since she had a cat in her life. I had to show her that we give the same love and attention to our owners that a dog would give. Although we are more independent, that is a good thing when your mom is as busy as mine. She made a great decision when she adopted me and my wish is that the friends I left behind at the LCHS find a home as loving as mine. My mom and I want to thank the LCHS for everything they do and especially for taking such good care of all the pets until homes are found.

Hello LCHS,

You knew me as Tanner. My new loving family has changed my name to Tucker. My new family visited me on on December 4th and then officially came to pick me up on December 11th. I have a nice house to roam and my own kitty tower.

I now have a big brother named Rascal. Rascal is a 14 yr old Beagle/Shepherd Mix. We are still getting to know each other but one thing we have in common, is that we like to sleep a lot while mom and dad are at work.

Thank you so much for allowing my loving parents (Kameron Cox and Barbara Reinagle-Cox) to adopt me.

Happy New Year.

Tucker (aka: Tanner the seal-point siamese cat)

The Louis family, Dwight Ill.

We brought Tabby aka Bugger Da Dog, Home from the Liv Co
Humane society about six years ago. She had been named Candy.

She was around two or three years of age at the time,  no one
was real sure. She was real easy to housebreak, she appeared to have had some previous experience in this area. She has become an active member of the family. She involves herself in all our activities,  including arguments. She loves everyone from the postman to the grandchildren - she even likes cats.

We didn't commit ourselves to a new family member like Tabby till we both had retired as having a pet requires full time responsibilities. She has brought much love and happiness to us.  Thank you to the Liv Humane Society and the ASPCA

I just wanted to add "our girls" to your list of success stories. We love to see all the dogs on the web-site in their new homes. We have three rescued dogs, Skeeter the bigger brown saddle, Lady the beagle w/ the black saddle, and Sydney the predominately white one.

We got Skeeter 12 years ago from the Humane Society in Bloomington/Normal before we had a shelter here in Pontiac. Lady was adopted as a Christmas present for myself in December of 2006 after the loss of my 12 year old corgi mix, Belle. Lady was not even a year old yet when I adopted her. She just loved her new home. She would just lay around all the time with our older dog Skeeter however,  rather than doing much playing. By summer time, I was getting concerned that such a young dog should be more active so I scouted for a playmate for her. That is when Sydney (previously known as Sara) came into LCHS. She was just a 3 month old puppy in the shelter with her mother. My twin sister Diana and I decided on a whim to go get her and try her out. Before even coming home, we took her to Future's Unlimited to see Karen (her other new mom) at work. We all fell in love with her right away.

We knew all would work out great when on Sydney's second day with us, Lady gently took a toy to her while she was outside, waited for Sydney to tentatively pick it up and then Lady gently tugged on it to get her to play. We were all watching from the window. The two have been inseparable ever since and as you can see, they love to cozy up with Skeeter, the big warm dog!!

Thanks so much to LCHS for the service you provide for this county, this community, and most importantly these animals. Having volunteered there for some time now, I am well aware of the dedication to and love for the animals that everyone there has.

xoxo

Autumn was a transfer to LCHS from the Fulton County Humane Society in Sept. 2009. She is a 2 year old red-brown/white Boston Terrier. We fell in love with her as soon as we saw her picture. My twin, Donita got her adoption set up for my husband, Mark, and I as a gift. What a great gift she has been. I lost my 16 yr old shih tzu in Aug of 2009 and Autumn filled such a hugh void for me. She is such a happy and spoiled dog and adores her "dad".. Thanks so much to LCHS and especially Jill R. for working this out for us, Autumn is such an important part of our family.

Look at our miracle HOPE!!! Just a shell of a dog in November 2007. She'd been terribly neglected, malnurished, flea infested, and almost bald.
Her story really begins there, when Michael and Michelle Skulemowski came into the shelter. They saw Hope's beauty. They nurtured her and loved her, and look at what a beautiful success she is! She is completely recovered, and gorgeous!!

THANK YOU MICHAEL & MICHELLE! YOU ARE OUR ANGELS TOO!

My name is Shorty. LCHS called me Reggie/Chaos. It's been 3 years since my old man & his daughter came to get me, & boy am I glad they did! I have my own people, my own house with a porch to prowl, & all the food I can eat! The old man feeds me well, can't you tell by my belly? Life is good. I have pug friends that visit me everyday. Everyone in the neighborhood loves me! There are plenty of kids to pet my head, & I love it when they all crowd around me to pet me at the same time!

I'm lucky, I know how nice it is to have people who love me & I love my people back. I don't just wag my tail, I wag my whole body to show them!! I just want to say thanks to LCHS for bringing me in from the cold & to Jill Rambo for bringing my people to me. I'm happy & safe now thanks to you guys!

LOVE, Shorty

Hi All, as promised here is the update on MIMI....

For the first 3 months she was very shy & afraid of everything, including us.  At the sight of a stranger she would run to her bed & hide. By the 5th month she came out of her shell. She learned to sit, lay down, stand up and shake.....the 'come' command still needs some work. Strangers are not high on her list of favorites, but she no longer hides from them.

Tug of war with her toys & watching the traffic through the picture window are her favorite pastimes. She loves to play with other dogs, go for walks, and ride in the car. All in all she has made a great improvement and every day just gets a little better. She has made a wonderful addition to our family.

Merry Christmas and thanks to all at LCHS!

Ron, Mary, & MIMI

We adopted Mirabelle, then known as Sparkle, in October of 2005. She was about 6 months old when we adopted her. What a great dog she has turned out to be! In July of 2007 I saw a picture of Jake on the LCHS website. I read while researching the border collie breed, that is sometimes easier to have 2 border collies, rather than just one. I went for a visit, and fell in love! I brought Jake home after his neuter. I wanted to keep him and Mirabelle apart for awhile so he could recover from his procedure. I introduced them briefly and promptly kenneled Jake to keep him at ease. Mirabelle wouldn't leave his side. She took on the roll of caregiver. She watched him, and refused to leave his side, and not once tried to play or rough house him. She laid with him and kept him calm. For the necessary time that is! They are now nonstop action all of the time! They have been best friends ever since the day we brought Jake home. We couldn't ask for 2 better dogs. Thanks LCHS!

THANK YOU! (a letter from Chloe & Lincoln O'Connor aka Bianca & Lucky)

To All the Wonderful Humans at LCHS:

Thank you seems like such a little thing to say for all of the amazing work that you do. Because of you guys we now have a home that loves and cherishes us. Our mom and dad say we are the best.We have adjusted well to our new home and fit right in. We recently brought home a new baby human sister, and mom says we are really great with her. We know just how to treat a little human. We have a good life in the country - we love to run and play in our backyard and take long naps on the couch or bed.THANK YOU SO MUCH for helping us when we needed you. God Bless You All,

Chloe & Lincoln O'Connor

P.S. Thanks from the rest of our family too!

Oh Jax & Chomper!! We had these gorgeous boys from 3 months of age. Found as strays together, they were adopted out again and again, but always seperate, never in the same home, and always returned. UNTIL, a young couple came in early October. The rest is history, happy history!

A note from Aaron & Kristy:

We wanted to wish you all a very merry Christmas & Happy New Year! We just love Jax & Chomper & they love us!! They love to play in the snow & then come in, get warm, & snuggle with us!

Happy Holidays!

Aaron & Kristy Jax & Chomper

Thank you for the picture, and the note! You're very special people to keep these 2 brothers together! LCHS

BJ--BEAR was adopted from here about 2 years ago. He and his wonderful family came in to visit us recently. He's very lucky. His family adores him.

BAILEY came in for a visit! One year later we barely recognized him! His family adores him and spoils him rotten! We even got to see some of his cool tricks,  (he can hold his own leash and walk himself!!!) Thank you for bringing Bailey for a visit! It makes us all happy to see a true success!

Another success Story!

Litttle did we know on that July morning of the blessings we were to receive from our beloved "Izzy"! I was only "looking" that day. When Diana said to me that she had the "perfect dog" for me, I thought.....hmmmm. But she was absolutely right! Our IZZY is so loveable, playful, and smart. She loves toys! Marvin enjoys playing with her soooo much while I give the hugs. But when the grandkids come over she gets so excited cause its play, play, play! But then she loves to just curl up and snuggle. And she's beautiful! She loves to be brushed and groomed. It just doesn't get any better than this! Thank you LCHS!

Just wanted to let you know how Shasta is. This picture is the first night she came home and slept on my husbands jacket. So Cute! And they have been best friends ever since. They both share the recliner every night..... We are so happy we used Petfinder.com to find our way to your place. You keep it cleaner than any kennel we have ever went to and the dogs are treated so good by your staff. You do a fantastic job!! I'll keep in touch!

This is Moses in his new home in Wisconsin. We never would have guessed his new best friend would be a horse. Thank you to Bill Theil of Saddlebrook Farms. Our Moses looks very happy.........

SHADOW... His forever family has found him. He came from a deplorable life 9 months ago. He was a walking skeleton. He didn't trust anyone. It took a long time for him to let us into his world. But slowly he learned to trust and allowed us to treat him the kindness and love he deserves. He became  a dog all the volunteers came to visit. Everyone grew to love him. And he returned that love many times over. Now he is living the life he deserves. He's one our biggest successes. He'll always hold a special place in our hearts. We're all happy for him. Thank you ,Shadow, for your friendship.  You are home now. You are why we ALL do what we do here at LCHS
